New York City, Nov. 10 — The promise of the soon-to-be-released BlackBerry Storm has energized RIM fanatics for months: Not only will it be the company’s first touch-screen BlackBerry model, but the Storm’s large, semi-VGA screen will make it a user’s dream. These new features, plus the full-HTML, high-performance web browser, will place the Storm head-to-head against the iPhone. Now, some companies are designing web portals for compatibility with this new breed of BlackBerry, set to match the Storm in terms of both navigability and ease of use. Luxury dining and lifestyle destination Ubi Ubi™ (http://www.ubiubi.mobi) is at the forefront of those new portals.
UBI UBI made it onto the radar of travelers and foodies alike last month when it unveiled its mobile platform for the 2009 Michelin restaurant guides in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. The platform uses an elegant, colorful, and intuitive interface to deliver Michelin’s venerated reviews, which have struck respect and fear into the hearts of restaurant owners throughout the world since 1899.
Mario Giacalone, president and founder of UBI UBI, points out that the portal’s attractive, intuitive interface looks best on a high-performance HTML browser like the Storm’s, especially compared to previous BlackBerry models: “While our goal has always been compatibility with all smartphones, especially the BlackBerry, our portal really reaches optimum performance with so-called iPhone 2.0 phones — those with full-color, full-screen, completely interactive browsers. Also, the large, colorful links as you browse through Ubi Ubi’s interface are designed to perform best with a fingertip — no scrolling and clicking necessary.”
Ubi Ubi’s bright, easy-to-navigate menu system pops on the Storm’s 3.25-inch, high-resolution 480 x 360 pixel display, allowing you fingertip access to thousands of restaurants and reviews. Meanwhile, the Storm’s clickable screen allows better interaction with Ubi Ubi’s exciting new features — and more are being released every week. Giacalone says, “For example, our Rate screen allows you to rate restaurants and contribute to our rapidly growing mobile community, while My Favorites allows you to create your own list of top restaurants, and our innovative Browse by Cuisine screen actually remembers which cuisines you like to view most.” The revolutionary ClickThrough tactile-feedback touch-screen makes it even easier to browse through multiple restaurant sorting options, including browsing by Neighborhood, Price, Rating, Name, and Cuisine.
All of Ubi Ubi’s features are designed with the user expressly in mind. “Users are our number-one source of development tips,” says Giacalone. “Within days of our full product launch on October 22, we were already modifying and adding features according to customers’ feedback.”
In fact, which cities Ubi Ubi covers next will be decided by the customers themselves. Ubi Ubi now carries restaurant reviews for four American cities, but will soon incorporate even more exclusive dining and leisure content from additional trusted reviewers and content providers. Current plans include covering restaurants in London, Paris, Dubai, Singapore, and more starting in the second quarter of 2009.
UBI UBI’s ultimate goal is to increase real-world connectedness. Mike Lanman, vice president and chief marketing officer of Verizon Wireless, has praised the BlackBerry Storm for offering consumers “more ways to stay connected to both their personal and professional lives — whether in their community or around the globe.” That’s exactly what UBI UBI aims to do — use technology to make the world more accessible, to build communities, and to bring you closer to business associates, friends, and family.
